ENTRIES
Eligible boats may be entered by completing registration with the TSC.
Newcomers are encouraged to participate.
FEE
Early registration fee for the regatta is $50.
TSC Members $45
Entrance fee includes One awards dinner ticket and One race shirt.
Fee for entries postmarked after 5/6/2010 will be $55
On-Line registration will be postmarked with the date of the E-mail.
Payment will be due by May 29th.
SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
RACE COURSES
Race course as
shown on accompanying charts.
FLEETS
There will be at least 2 fleets for Monohulls and one fleet each for Multihulls
and Open Class Multihulls (Hobies, Catamarans).
HANDICAPS
Monohulls will be handicapped using the latest Southern California PHRF ratings.
Scoring will he done using the modified
PHRF time-on-time system.
Open Class Multihull (Hobies, Catamaran) will be handicapped using the USYR
Portsmouth Handicap Rating System.
TROPHIES
Trophies will he awarded approximately one per four boats.
CLASS RIBBONS
Class Ribbons will be included in the race package.
The Class Ribbon must be flown from the backstay, no lower than the
boom. For boats with no backstay, the Class Ribbon must be flown from the
starboard spreader or shroud.
RULES
The race will be governed by The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2001-2004
including US Sailing prescriptions,
PHRF and fleet or class rules except as any of these are Modified by
these sailing instructions.
The International Rules for Preventing Collisions at Sea shall be observed by
all boats in situations involving non-racing vessels.
The Race
Committee has the power to change the rules of conduct of the race. This regatta is designated Category A.
NOTICES
OF CHANGE
Any change to these Sailing Instructions will be posted on the window at the
Marina San Carlos. Other changes may be announced at the Captains’ Meeting; it
is the responsibility of each skipper to attend.
REQUIREMENTS
All monohulls must meet the following requirements:
1.
A legible sail number
2.
A crew of two or more
3.
An operating motor with adequate fuel
4.
One gallon of potable liquid for each person aboard
5.
Adequate anchor and minimum of 100 feet of line
6.
Bilge pump in working order
7.
Two bunks
8.
Fenders and mooring
9.
Emergency equipment including a PFD and whistle for each person aboard.
10.
VHF Marine radio.
All Hobies and Catamarans must meet NAHCA or equivalent requirements.
These are minimum
requirements.
All skippers are responsible to ensure the boat carries adequate safety
equipment to meet USCG requirements.
Random inspections may he held.
PROTESTS
A boat intending to protest shall display a red flag from the time of the
incident until no longer racing.
As prescribed in rule 61, protests shall be on written forms available from the
race committee and submitted to the race committee within one hour of the
termination of the day’s racing. All
reasonable efforts must be made to notify the other boat of the intent to
protest. Every attempt should be made to settle protests by the 720 rule.
STARTING
SEQUENCE
Before the first race of each day, every boat shall check in with the
committee boat, indicating their intent to
race and hailing their sail number prior to the 10 minute warning signal.
Racing will be started using rule 26, System 2,
with classes starting at 5-minute intervals as modified in the sailing
instructions.
WARNING
Ten minutes before the start of the first fleet, horn blast plus hoisting
of the Yellow flag. The Yellow flag will
be lowered one minute before the hoist of the Blue flag. All
motors must be shut off at the warning signal.
PREPARATORY
Five minutes before
the start, horn blast and hoist of the Blue flag. This will be the ten-minute
warning signal for the second fleet. The
Blue flag will be lowered one minute before the hoist of the Red flag.
START
One blast of horn and hoist of Red flag. This will be the preparatory signal for
the second fleet. And the ten- minute warning signal for the third fleet. All
premature starters must return and re-cross the line, keeping clear of boats
making clear start. If you have fouled another boat prior to the start, do a 720
before re-starting.
Boats whose preparatory signal has not been made shall keep clear of the starting area
and of all boats whose preparatory signal has been made.
FINISH
All boats finish with the committee boat to
PORT and the mark to STARBOARD.
RETIRING
All boats retiring from the race should make
every attempt to notify the committee boat of their
Intention to retire.
RADIO COMMUNICATION
Regatta Channel will be 69.
A boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio
communications not available to all boats.
