Tucson Sailing Club San Carlos Connection ITEMS THAT CAN BE BROUGHT INTO MEXICO The following is an excerpt from the Mexican Law Article 61,VI and Regulation 89. You are encouraged to become knowledgeable of what the law states and the fees you are required to pay when transporting goods into Mexico. This list is not all inclusive, but meant to give examples of what may be transported. The following new and used items brought into Mexico by each traveler are exempt from import fees: 1. Personal items, such as clothes, shoes, hygiene and beauty products that will be used during your trip. These items include equipment used for a baby, such as baby seats, cleaning items, toys, portable cradles, walkers and accessories. 2. 2 cameras or video cameras, including 12 rolls of film or videocassettes; photographic material; 2 cell phones; portable printer and copier; personal digital assistant; laptop, CD burner; portable projector; and accessories. 3. 2 personal sports equipment, 4 fishing poles, 3 water boards with or without sails, and the accessories, including trophies or other items of recognition that can be transported personally. One bicycle. 4. Portable sound equipment for mixing or digital reproduction for CD and DVDs, and accessories. 5. 5 laser discs, 10 DVDs, 30 CDs and 5 audiocassettes for recording; 3 software and the equipment for such. 6. Books, magazines, and other printed documents. 7. 5 toys, including collectibles and video games with 5 players. 8. Equipment to take blood pressure and measure glucose, including medications along with a recent prescription identifying the medication. 9. Suitcases, containers, etc used to transport the items. 10. For travels over age 18, no more than 20 little cartons of cigarettes, 200 grams of tobacco, 3 liters of alcoholic beverages, and 6 liters of wine. 11. 1 binocular and 1 telescope. 12. 2 musical instruments and accessories. 13. 1 tent with camping equipment. 14. For those with disabilities, equipment used because of the disabilities, such as walkers, wheelchairs, and crutches. 15. Hand tools, drill, pliers, wrenches, jump cables, etc. Also, you may bring across 2 dogs or cats, with items to care for the animals. You must have an animal importation certificate from the Secretaría de Agricultura, Ganadería, Desarrollo Rural, Pesca y Alimentacíon. Items not exempt may be brought into Mexico if they do not exceed $75 US per person if traveling by land and $300 if traveling by air or sea. You must have documentation as to the value of the items. When crossing the border, you must stop at the Declaration area and provide the information on the value of the items not exempt. The import fee is 15% of the value in excess of $75/$300 per person. If you fail to declare non-exempt items, the fee is 95% of the excess value. Return to San Carlos Connection Main Page.
