Picacho Lake Plans Move Ahead The preliminary planning, engineering and cost estimating for the Picacho Lake Recreation area are now virtually complete. Pinal County staff along with consultants have spent many hours to make sure that no stones have been left unturned. "An endeavor such as this requires an unimaginable amount of planning because we have very little history to draw from. We are very aware that the citizens of Pinal County and its many visitors are anxious for this project to get started, but we have to be totally knowledgeable before one shovel of dirt is moved." The next phase in the development process is to prepare the actual construction plans and specifications. As the plans develop, the County will determine the need for private vendors and will accept requests for proposals for those opportunities. A meeting of interested recreationists from scuba divers to windsurfers is also planned. The County will also hold public hearings regarding the rezoning of the land on which the recreational facility will reside. Another crucial phase of the development plan process will be agency review. Arizona Department of Resources, Arizona State Parks, San Carlos Irrigation Project, the Central Arizona Project, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and numerous Pinal County departments will be charged with the review and approval of these very special plans. Keeping all of the above in mind, we still plan to break ground on our favorite lake in 1999! |
